Was Terry really considered that good looking?

He managed to bed a lot of tasty women on Minder, just wondering if women went for guys like that in the 70's or did he casually get the creators to write in the "Ooh, your handsome" line in most episodes. tbh, he was ginger :)

That's what I've always thought. The women worship him, it's like he casts a spell on them. He ain't ugly, but he's certainly not deserving of the level of awe that women seem to regard him with in the show.

YesTheRiverknows, that sums it up really. I remember one episode he did get rebuffed by a younger 'bird' in a launderette though. And how did he get to emigrate to Australia with a criminal record???

I have seen all these episodes and I suppose that in the earlier ones, 79-84, Terry would have still passed as a sort of rough and ready "GEEZER", as he was an ex boxer and worked as a Minder and Bouncer(for Arthur),he would have had ladies who would have liked a bit of rough. If you watch them in order you can see the gradual change of him becoming more of a reliable sort of safe father figure. The episode you refered to with him getting rebuffed was in 1988 and I think by then the writers would have known it would be the last series and put that in as a sort of sign that Terry was getting too old for his unstable life with Arthur and losing success with younger "Birds". His hair didn't change much during Minder, you can tell he was already thinning in The Sweeney in the 70's, so as you got further into the 80's Minders, the hair looked pretty much out dated or dad-like. Hope this helped, this is one of the best, funniest programmes ever broadcast on T.V. It'd be well worth owning the lot.

Dennis Waterman was popular with female viewers at the time because of the Sweeney.

Hence why the makers of Minder always had him bedding women.

Its that man again!!

Let's face it, there were some rough old dogs getting passed off as great beauties in the show as well. This still happens in Easyenders and Corrie.

Standards were different then - or, to put it another way, you could get away with showing normal-lloking people on TV and calling them attractive.

Terry's not to good looking, but his manly scent of Old Spice, Swarfega, and motor oil must've done the job!

The women in Minder certainly liked a bit of rough!

Being ginger doesn't make you automatically unattractive. Anyway, I digress...he has charm, seems to be a straight shooter and has a pretty tasty body. I wouldn't turn him down myself...
