Hardly employee of the month

I love 'Minder', it's an excellent show which works on many different levels. However how come it is that Terry works for Arthur yet 9 times out of 10 when Arthur asks him to do something he refuses. He usually caves in after extracting an extortionate sum - £100 for looking after a video shop for the day in the 80s - but it begs the question, what does he actually think his job is?

And surely as an employee his attitude should be slightly other than a seemingly dogmatic refusal to do pretty much anything?

I understood that Terry doesn't work FOR Arthur, he works WITH him. Apparently he helps Arthur out because Arthur did Terry a favour once, although neither of them can remember what the favour was.

Oh and if Terry is earning £100 for minding a shop, you can guarantee Arthur is making about £400 out of it.

I've seen this happen in other peoples lives and now it's happening in mine.

I think Terry was relucant to take on some jobs due to the strong chance of him being beaten-up or arrested, or even locked-up in a cold store for a few hours. I think he had learnt from past experience that some harm was sure to befall him when taking on most of the jobs that Arthur gave him to do. Also, whilst Terry may not have exactly been some sort of saint, he was a nice guy and seemed not to like being involved in anything which would directly con people out of money, although I think he had to 'turn a blind eye' on some occasions.
