why wouldn't Jodie let the babysitter out of the closet?

Anybody know why? I was a bit annoyed with Amy when she was sitting on the bed letting the babysitter scream her head off not letting her out of the closet.

Because Jodi is supposed to be a demon that enjoys the suffering of others.

Jody didn't like anyone being mean to Amy. The babysitter was being strict and stern with Amy, even telling her, "Don't smart off to me," so Jody "fixed" Jackie by locking her in the closet.

Earlier in the movie when the two boys were teasing Amy from the window upstairs, Jody (or it's assumed to be Jody) smashed one of the boys' hands by slamming the window down on it and no one could open it.

Jody was very protective of Amy.

Which is odd because Jodie comes across as a demon yet also protective. Demons are evil yet they also lie. I've often wondered if Jodie had alternative motives. Gaining her trust for something awful. It creeps me out.

Yet I've also wondered if Jodie was really a guardian type angel. Demons hate anything Godly so others effected by the demon would see evil. If that is the case then Jodie maybe was protecting her from the babysitter who was also even effected by the demon.

Hi Amyjolamb

I've never thought about what you just posted but those are EXTREMELY good points. I have NEVER thought of Jodie being a guardian angel. That puts a whole new perspective on the film.

Maybe back when Jodie was a live pig a little girl that looked like Amy was kind to him like Fern was to Wilbur in Charlotte's Web.

I never saw Jody as anything but a demon.
Demons are tricksters.
They come in all manner of forms, including *good guys*.
I can guarantee that *Jody* didn't appear as anything at all frightening to child Amy.

By gaining her trust, yet wreaking havoc to everyone else, it drove the Lutzes further apart & into chaos.

Demons gain their strength from any pain, torment, anger, or sadness they can get humans to exhibit/feel.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

That scene sort of creeped me out, with her hands bleeding all over the door and stuff.

From a logic stand point, the only reason why Amy is friends with Jodie is because Jodie must present herself in a form that is not scary or threatening to her. Now why a demonic pig would befriend a child is beyond me but I would assume so that she could be manipulated in some way, to affect and influence others, etc probably like what happened to the baby sitter, as stated above.
