What extras should a Blu-Ray SE of The Black Hole have?

I've wondering what kind of extras this film should receive if they've (Disney) bothered clean out the print and remastered the picture for its Blu-ray release one day or so?

What i imagine a special edition Blu-Ray of The Black Hole might possible have on its eventual disc.

The Black Hole: What If Features

* - "The Black Hole". Film 1080p anamorphic restoration with a 5.1 Surround Sound DTS audio track.

* - 2Separate Audio track" (Including the previously unreleased *bonus tracks* from John Barry's score for the film).

* - "Trailers, TV spots, radio audio spots. Merchandise Commercials".

* - "Alternate ending" (if it Still exists; Dr Kate in the Sistine Chapel looking at the "Hand of God" painting by Michelangelo.), behind the scene documentary (archival or a newly made one?).

* - "Models/SFX of The Black Hole film": Features on the; The Cygnus, U.S.S. Palomino, The Probe Ship.

* - "The Robots of Black Hole": A feature on; V.I.N.CENT, Old B.O.B., Maximilian, Captain S.T.A.R. and The Sentry Robots.

* - Rare audio track taken from the children's "Disney's Black Hole Read-Along book" of the film (with any possible taken *illustrations* from said book seen onscreen).

* - "Photo gallery, storyboards, behind-the-scene SFX studio set pictures". ("THESE EXIST".)

* - "The Black Hole DVD:ROM" Script, comic book adaptation, posters (domestic and foreign) and other promotional advertisement material.

* - "Tribute to actors"; Roddy McDowall and Slim Pickens (who voiced; "V.I.N.CENT & Old B.O.B." respectively)

* - "Film Commentary?" As Maximilian Schell, Robert Forster, Ernest Borgnine, Joseph Bottoms, Yvette Mimieux and director Gary Nelson are still alive. Would be incredible if Disney could get'em today to do the film's commentary, just as say for example; The Goonies DVD/Blu-ray had Richard Donner and his cast do the lengthy commentary with such a wide group from the film's cast assembled to do a commentary track for the DVD (and later Blu-ray) of the movie. And Ernest Borgnine certainly would be the oldest man alive giving commentary to a film he did well over 30 years ago to boot! Be the best way to capture his comments on this film after so long ago as well too.

Last one's possibly very unlikely, but hey we can all imagine right?

And there's always the HomeTheaterForum.com to shoot off such ideas anyhow?

Well what would you Black Hole fans out there like to see being put onto any Blu-ray edition of this old classic movie that you can envision for it down the road?

All good points, and what about a little interview with Christopher Nolan? Yes, the most interesting big-budget director nowadays pointed out that The Black Hole is one of his 10 favorite movies, and this coming from such a high rated director is quite a compliment ( even more than some crappy Z-movie beloved by the overated Tarantino ). Maybe is asking too much and Mr. Nolan be available for the interview would be pure luck or a humble gesture from himself :)
I do hope they keep some of the original posters as a cover art, not that stupid photoshoped cover like the last edition.
Some documentary about how a much maligned flop turned into a cult favorite would be balls, kind of a redemption from the Disney studios. Let´s not forget that Tron was also a flop but grew a loyal cult, neverthless The Black Hole is still after more than 30 years the studio black sheep ( well, maybe replaced by John Carter ).
I do hope is a free region Blu-Ray, 10 years ago The Black Hole was the first DVD I ever bought and had to buy a expensive but very *beep* DVD player just to see it, and while my new BR player is DVD unlocked, the same doesn´t apply to Blu-Rays other than region B.

Whoa, MoonPreacher where did Christopher Nolan say this? links at all.

Anyways thats interesting to say the least i mean, Black Hole wasn't a perfect movie but yes i'd say it is indeed a cult hit with a fans who always appreciated how brave an attempt it was for a movie way back in '79 as it being a Disney picture and all. But i disagree that Tron was ever a flop when it wasn't though, as Tron made nearly close to double its budget back. While The Black Hole made the majority of its money back with many video sales and rentals.

I do hope they keep some of the original posters as a cover art, not that stupid photoshopped cover like the last edition.

Agreed! no matter how it was 30 years ago, its a proven sci-fi classic now and should be treated as such beyond 2012 and onwards. So a features packed Blu-ray should be The Black Hole's reward after the years of neglect by the critics and naysayers etc.

You guys probably know all this, but just in case (check faq #7):

The most important stuff, IMO, are the deleted scenes and the contemporary interviews and things.

Here's to hoping, I'd love to see all the stuff that is in the vaults.

Damn!!! I remember 12 years ago, the dark times of dial up connections, this was the only site with some information about TBH, it´s amazing as a so ancient site still exists since the last update was in 2000, maybe it´s traped in some kind of virtual black hole LOL

About Nolan´s favorite movies:

Well, it is located in area 51...

That site was indeed the one for anyone interested in TBH. I wonder where the guy is nowadays. Anyone of you?

reply

Damn thats pretty sweet, Christopher Nolan acknowledges The Black Hole as a classic or gulity pleasure of his?

I'm quite impressed with that knowledge myself now!
