Question about movie

SPOILER

Why did Keitel's character kill the other guy at the beginning? I remember watching this movie for about the third time a few years ago, and I still didn't understand what the point of that was.

reply

Harvey Keitel's character (Vincent Benson) kills captain James to take his place on the Saturn 3 mission, since Benson himself failed his psychology-evaluation (which classified him as "potentially unstable") and therefore couldn't go on a mission. This is apparent from the few lines of bad exposition the captain says to Benson before he is murdered.

Kirk and Farah's character then assume that Benson IS captain James.

reply

Keitel's last medical exam depicted him as an unstable person. Since there is a mental connection between Hector and his controller, it could be dangerous, as it finally is, to let him control the robot, and he is denied the mission.
But he is obsessed with this program, and so he kills and replaces his substitue.

reply

Why is Keitel's voice dubbed in this movie?

reply

Why is Keitel's voice dubbed in this movie?
The director didn't like Keitel's Brooklyn accent.

seeing the film the voice of Harvey.voice was fine to me.And I did'nt know that actor that well anyway.

reply

I kept thinking how awfully inapropriate Keitel's real voice would've been for this role, while I watched Saturn 3. Yeah, they did it right.

I reluctantly agree that the dubbing was a good thing, unless Harvey could have faked that vaguely European accent here.
