Compelling

I've only watched Solaris (1972) from Andrei Tarkovsky and that was very good. This on the other hand, was an interesting watch.

I have to admire Andrei and his film crew. Filming in those mucky, wet conditions for days is quite an achievement. The film came out beautifully. It was beautifully shot, despite the surroundings.

I loved that there was a dog in the film.

To the message: I think it's about hope. Hoping for something better. Convincing yourself that there is something better in a place where you can find it.

SPOILERS

Skepticism can be the main message of this film, but then you have the husband who laments the non-belief of people he takes there and his little girl who has the gift of telekinesis.

The Zone does exist, and it does grant you things, but it seems you have to have the innocence of heart and humility to be able to receive a wish or a gift.

That's my take anyway.

Good film. It definitely has re-watch value.

It's possibly my favourite movie. Admittedly, it can be a challenging watch but an incredibly rewarding one.

While I loved Solaris, this one did nothing for me AT ALL and I will never sit through it again.

I GET it and all that, just felt it took too long to deliver too little.
And no, I don't like Transformers, I like 2001, Tenet, Interstellar etc.

It's cool others like it, but I refuse to recommend it to my friends. Most of whom had never heard of it, and now I understand why.

In my humble opinion, it's overrated.
