Can we take a minute to appreciate '80s courtesy?

Every time I watch this movie, I can't help but notice how polite and considerate the phone call between Hallorann and the Sheriff is. Not only does the Sheriff recall the guy's name and address him with it, he says, "Good evening, Mr Hallorann, what can I do for you?" Boy, can you imagine getting that kind of attention from any sort of law enforcement anywhere these days? Ahh, 1980!

I am not sure that is a 80's thing; I see that being more of a small town where everyone knows everyone.

It's more of a screenwriters thing I think.

Nah it's really a small town vs big town thing. As someone who lives in a big town I can confirm that everytime I go in a small town I yotally see the difference in the way people behave with more courtesy.

Agree with the small town etiquette VS the big city where every person is treated like trash
