Scenes deleted?

Just had a chance to see this for the first time since it came out in the theaters. Wondering about a couple of scenes seem to have been cut...

This first one was mentioned in another thread.....Gene Wilder is adamant that the actress is carrying stolen merchandise under her coat and spends several minutes trying to get her to confess and prove that she's wearing nothing under her coat....then all of a sudden, he's meeting Richard Pryor in a local bar and simply says that he "got fired". Why go through that whole earlier scene if there is no payoff?

Second scene...Jo Beth Williams tracks the real robbers to a local strip club and sees that one of them has a tattoo like the witness said in her statement. She runs to a payphone and calls the cops. Next scene (next day??), she's dragging off her lawyer cousin to the rodeo and says that Wilder/Pryor are in trouble. What made her say that? What happened to the cops she called?

Both scenes seem truncated and leave the impression that the endings were edited out.
