Plot Hole?

I want to start this off by saying I really like this film but the ending is really stupid and doesn't make sense at all! At least to me anyway!

How they all escape is just a big mess which doesn't make sense. Richard Pryor goes through a vent and into a peanut/hot-dog vendor trolley. He gets wheeled over to the van where he gets changed and puts on a disguise. He then risks being caught by walking past the guards to lock himself in the bathroom to aid the other guys by giving them a disguise. The other two guys get into their disguise and they all risk walking past the guards to get to the van. Gene Wilder then goes through the vent and into the peanut/hot-dog vendor trolley and then into the van where they drive off and escape together.

Why didn't they all just use the peanut/hot-dog vendor trolley to escape? Why risk being caught wearing a disguise when they could have all gotten into the peanut/hot-dog vendor trolley 1 by 1 and straight into the van like Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor did. There was no point using the bathrooms to put their disguises on.

I agreee, when you think about it they took too many risks

And how about the fact that they officially escaped before being released from prison? That might have been frowned upon by the Arizona judicial system.

I agree and was thinking the same thing. When Pryor puts on a disguise and returns I was thinking, "What the....why?!" I thought it was part of some plan to get Grossberger out since he wouldn't fit under the grandstand, but they don't even bother with him. Thanks. Now stay here and explain our disappearance to the warden, fatty. See ya.
