TJ not likable??

Really, neither of the guys deserved her. And frankly, it's her decision, not theirs.

I felt he wasn't likeable.

-TJ leaves town for a long period of time and doesn't tell his girlfriend and makes no effort to contact her in any way shape of form and expects the two of them to be together again.

-TJ tells Axle there's a problem with Sarah dating Axle and wants to fight. Axle acts like the better man and doesn't.

-TJ constantly makes childish and instigating remarks to Axle.

-TJ doesn't listen to Axle, who is his superior, and gets yelled at and goes on to tell anyone who will listen that Axle is getting on his case because of Ashley which prompts a confrontation between the two.

-TJ tries to steal Sarah away from Axle.

The guy came off as a major douche. Axle only came off as one when he tried to kiss Sarah at the party, but even then, I felt he can't be blamed since he was trying to kiss what he thought was his girlfriend, not knowing that she wanted to break up with him.

Agreed! He was the worst of many terrible characters.

Well in my mind the girl was pretty much useless.

She really could have stopped them from fighting but played both sides of the field, when they started fist fighting she pretty much just stood there. And she just stood there and watched, while TJ fought the miner.

I was annoyed. Why did poor Hollis have to die but not this useless bimbo?

well, she does push them both away at the party in the end and even says that it's her choice not theirs. she only really goes for TJ after thinking Axel has drowned, and even more so in the final reveal.
and, really, I doubt they stayed together after such a traumatic event; seeing each other would constantly remind them of it.

I didn't like him either. I thought he was a douche, to be honest

He was pretty difficult to like.

Perhaps it's just wishful thinking, but maybe this was done on purpose in order to make him a better suspect. He and Axel both tend to disappear before the Miner shows up to do his thing. Him being a total dick the whole time kind of makes him more eligible for possible villainy.
