Lures you in based on a gory reputation

But it's the mood, atmosphere and overall effective scare scenes that I think are this movie's main draw.

I came to this conclusion after last night's 're-watch and was very impressed that it wasn't the fx work that reeled me in as it did years ago.

Even my girlfriend who laughs at the majority of these movies, including classics like Night of the Living Dead and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, jumped so bad at one part she ran to the kitchen!

The Prowler is underrated in this regard. what do you think?

I consider it one of my fav slashers <3

I've always liked it but it wasn't until this most recent rewatch that I'd call it a favorite.

My Bloody Valentine and Prowler are often compared but upon a rewatch of MBV about 4 months ago I gotta say cool uncut death scenes aside, that really is one awkward, goofy, clunky film with a horrible romantic sideplot. Not absolute dreck, but not nearly as good as I remember it being. The Prowler is the clear winner for me.

I absolutely hate this slow bore.

I don't hate it but I don't love it either.

I agree completely I look ay it as a mix of Halloween style atmosphere with Friday the 13th effects and for me it mixes the 2 nicely. This is also my favorite stand alone Slasher film.

The gore is very impressive but like most of these stalk and slash films it's mostly a bore.
The only real engaging and atmospheric part was the opening '40s segment. I also thought the justifiable rape of the twin mongoloid girls was distasteful. All would've been forgiven if the prowler had worn a rubber. You don't want these people procreating.
