Because with just a little jiggering, it can be made to fit the modern zeitgeist. Set it in a small town ruined by Walmart and meth, have some cute young thing trying to escape her deplorable existence by snagging herself a "hero", cast Zendaya and Zac Efron or something. It could be huge, and appeal to the kind of people who don't normally go to a lot of movies.
I'm sure Hollywood will remake this, they ran out of ideas, oh in the early 2000s, about the time that POS Starskey and Hutch was made. That was the kickoff of shitty reboots.

I can name a few other actor driven movies that won't be remade anytime soon.

** There is one exception, Scarface is to be redone by the Cohen brothers.
