Can we get a sequel?

I know it would be tough to follow up, the prequel isn't bad, but with all the crappy movies out there getting 2s, 3s etc how about someone pick this up where it left off? Small scale it could just be a rescue group that gets caught up in the Thing's trap, larger scale it somehow got to a town, and even larger scale it gets back to the mainland. I would hate to see it butchered, but this was one of my favorite movies growing up and it would be nice to get some more of the human imitating thing.

My idea for a sequel would be almost like Aliens, it being a direct sequel, with MacReady and Childs as returning characters. I'd set it in McMurdo Station in Antarctica, as it would still retain the claustrophobic atmosphere, but also bring the threat of the Thing one step closer to reaching civilization. And as I would in my own monster/outbreak stories, I'd have a human villain - a high-ranking military scientist - to act as a foil to the protagonists, and have him end up being infected into the final Thing for the climax.

And P.S., I agree the prequel is not that bad, I do salute the filmmakers for trying to not go the route of simply remaking the 1982 film, rather going for making a prequel.

Now it'd be cool to see a sequel to the 1982 film be made, cause then The Thing could potentially be called a trilogy, or tetralogy if you count the 1951 film.

The Thing (2011) / The Thing (1982) / The Thing: Outbreak

I don't want this movie tainted for me which really happens when a movie franchise is rebooted. Love The Thing!

Here is my own Sequel Idea below!

"In January of 1983, an American Rescue Team of 7 people arrive at the burned remains of "OUTPOST 31" where they find the frozen dead bodies of MacReady and Childs. They want to take the 2 bodies back to McMurdo Base but because a large storm is lying between them and McMurdo, they decide to head to another nearby American Base called "OUTPOST 28" which consists of 12 people and stay there until the storm passes over them. However, while there the 2 bodies of MacReady and Childs both transform into monsters beginning the madness all over again. Then to make matters even worse, a 10-Person Soviet Military Team arrives at "OUTPOST 28" with the intention of capturing the monster by any means necessary and killing anyone who gets in their way."

How about we find out what happened to Kate as well? Kind of hoping she found a way to make it out, but not much basis for that hope.

This movie does not need a sequel. If you want more of The Thing just go watch the prequel.

completely unnecessary. its prefect the way it is.

If there's a sequel that's of the same quality as the original it will bomb. The general public for whatever reason just don't like that movie.

Nah. That ship has sailed. This movies ending is finito. Can't be continued.

We did get a fantastic prequel though that ironed out some of the flaws of this movie (though to be fair it is lesser than the 1982 movie in a few areas).

They could do a remake I guess, and try start up a franchise by leaving the remakes ending open. Though I doubt the box office potential of 'The Thing'. This movie flopped and so did the prequel. The general public don't seem to be interested in it.
