shareDuplicate itself? What do you mean exactly? There is no evidence in the movie for duplication, and the Thing cannot gain mass from nothing, only from absorbing victims.

I think it was Edward deVere that suggested a theory long ago, there's a good chance the facility would have some vermin and/or insects.
Which makes sense. When large shipments of food are brought in, it would be pretty difficult to ensure all food pallets, large bulk food sacks, etc. would be completely free of bugs, mice, etc. And since they stored them inside the facility, no threat of freezing. So there's a reasonable chance tiny creatures as hosts are there at the facility. After the big blast? Who knows.
