Just watched the movie for the first time!

I received my Blu-ray in the mail today!
think I can safely say that I liked almost everything about this movie. And what I didn't like... I loved! OK, I'll admit that watching a Husky with an axe in his neck was a bit rough for me but what a cool film. I loved all the exterior scenes, in the cold winter of Antartica, and every scene inside the base was good too. Balanced itself perfectly. Great picture with Awesome special effects and Kurt is pretty badass rocking the "bearded cowboy" style. There's not a lot of important movies that were made after 1980 that I haven't ever seen (at least parts of) but this one fell under my radar all my life. I have to thank people on this site for inciting me in seeing it. It's now right up there my list with Jacob's Ladder. I really wonder how people reacted when the movie came out because more than 30 years later, it's still an impressive first watch! 9/10

Saw this on its initial UK release. I would have been about 15 at the time. I was blown away. An incredible piece of film making. Glad that it has gone on become a cult classic. Did not deserve to bomb at the box office.

You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!

34 years on, I don't really remember the reaction of the audience too much. Some were quite subdued. Back in '82 the effects really pushed the boundaries of what was feasible and were quite hard hitting. There were stories in the UK press about some cinemas removing carpets due to audiences reaction to the gruesome sfx. I didn't put a lot of faith in those reports though.

I'm watching it now as I write this post. The Thing is transforming in the dog's kennel. After all these years, this is still an incredibly impressive piece of movie making.

Damn it Childs. Torch it!

I keep going back and rewatching that kennel scene and its effectively disturbing every time i see it!
