The movie was intended to be a satire!
It is now a Christmas Classic, but the filmmakers were out to make fun of holiday movies.
Weird, huh?

Whatever the movie was meant to be, it is what it is now, a Christmas Classic for 10's of millions that shows the humor and fun in the holiday experiences many of us can still remember growing-up in middle class America between the 40's and the 60's.
