Spoiler question about Ralphie's "Christmas Theme"?

Do you agree that the C+ grade she gave to Ralphie on his Christmas Theme was accurate? I somewhat think so although I would've liked to see him get a higher grade.

reply

It was probably worth a B+, but she dropped it a full grade to a C+ due to her bias against the BB gun.

reply

Even outside of the bias it really wasn't that well written. It was just, "I want a bb gun for Christmas. I think bb guns are good for Christmas." Without really going into why he feels that way.

I admit when I was just a bit older than Ralphie in 1997, I wanted a Venom with a bunch of heads (an action figure from a Venom comic called the Madness) cause I saw a kid at school with one. And really the only reason I wanted it was just cause it looked cool.

If I was asked to write a paper about what I wanted for Christmas that year I probably would have gotten a low grade because of being unable to explain well why I wanted that toy.

According to the short story from which that scene was taken, Ralphie's composition (exactly the same as the one he read in the movie) received a B along with the same warning about shooting his eye out.

I also felt his comment about a football not being a good Christmas gift affected him from getting a high grade as well.

reply

She should have given him a B. After all it was Christmas, and he did give her a nice fruit basket 😁

reply

The grade was for his writing ability, not for Christmas charity or sucking up. C+ was generous.

IF RALPHIE WAS SMART HE WOULD HAVE WRITTEN HIS THEME ABOUT WANTING A PRETTY DOLLY...I GURANTEE A PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY...HIS PARENTS WOULD HAVE BEEN DYING TO BUY HIM A BUTCH BB GUN.🙂
