The mom putting the bar of soap in her mouth

Cracks me up. I never had my mouth washed out with soap but I grew up during that era when it was done. I did once put a bar of soap in my mouth to see what it was like but my experiment didn’t last three seconds 😄

I grew up in the 90s and had parents that did put a bar of soap in mine and my older siblings' mouth when we cussed. My 2 younger siblings though never received this punishment though.

Yeah my dad turned into a big softie too with my 2 youngest brothers lol.

I tried the same thing when I was eight. I got tired of getting my mouth washed out with soap and tried to eat it and make it disappear. It didn't work out.

at least you had a clean mouth after!

My grandfather washed my mouth out with soap when I was a kid in the late 80s. When my dad found out about it he was not happy. That was the first and last time it happened.

At first I thought the mother was a little bizarre putting a bar of mouth in her soap, I later realized she did it because she felt that she deserved a little bit of a punishment for what Schwartz had to experience, I had my mouth washed with soap once and hated it.

My parents were more the ‘go to your room types,’ not hitters or soap to the mouth folks.
My buddy Mike’s Mother made him suck soap several times when she would hear us talking bad language. Mike would cry and choke every time, I thought it was a bit extreme even as a little boy. That Lady really ran a tight ship😳

When I was a kid in the late '50s and '60s the bar of soap was fairly common, along with the belt, the paddle, a switch from a tree, or a coathanger. You toed the line or you got your ass kicked.

I thought it was an expression, not something people actually went through, lol
