Not all box office hits are good.

If I were 7-8 I would have loved this movie. But this movie in my 30's sucks.

Never mind the flashing lights I got a migraine just from attempting to watch it and figure out the plotline.

I can understand why some like it. I just don't care though: it's pretty bad on all levels.
If the sound track didn't explode on that new network --MTV-- and got a heavy rotation on pop FM radio, it would have made about 4 mil instead of 200 mil.
Jen' Beals and Michael Nouri are beautiful people. That and a few hit records were enough to make this a hit.

Seen in ‘83, it was quite good. Seeing it as an adult....and in 2021, it’s not going to hold up as well.

The fitness craze was new in the early 1980's.

The movie successfully capitalized on it. (With enormous help from the soundtrack and heavy MTV rotation)

If released in 1975, it would have been a dud.
