So did he intentionally want Clark to take the family truckster or was it a legit mistake they made? Also why would he want Clark to take the truckster? Was it because it was a piece of garbage and was worth less than the Antarctic Blue sports wagon he wanted? Also if they flattened the car Clark gave them wouldn’t that like defeat the whole purpose considering now they can’t sell it?
shareIt was a bait and switch. He wanted him to take the truckster since it was such a piece of crap and they were getting him to overpay for it. As for the crushing of his car, a lot of times dealerships don't give much for trade-ins and really just do it so you'll take the car from them. So since they wanted to get rid of the truckster so bad then the trade-in meant nothing. And crushing the car made it so it was a done deal.

Yea it was the same price. And the salesman tried to build it up like he was getting a great deal and like it was better than the one Clark ordered/wanted.

I think it's unclear if the dealer screwed up on the order or if it was intentional. But once the salesman knew they had the wrong car, he clearly started bullshitting.
I don't understand why they would crush that Vista Cruiser station wagon. That was actually a really good car.
The dealer DEFINITELY knew what he was doing! He kept trying to blame "Davenport" for the "mix-up". The truckster was OBVIOUSLY a piece of shit that the dealer needed to unload. The dealer was literally a career bullshitter.
The 2 reasons that I can figure with crushing the car is: 1. The car is crushed, makes it a done deal and Clark MUST take the truckster and/or 2. For scrap metal. Sell it to a junk man or whoever for the metal.
When I shop for a new car I always ask if they have the color in "metallic pea". I like to see the salesman (or womans) reaction.
