Nobody wants to see a bunch of thugs shooting each other. If we wanna watch that we could just turn on the local news.

This movie and the book it is based on are set in the 1950s and is about 2 groups of white people back then that didn't get along. It was a sad time in our country when white people and African Americans were segregated and didn't spend time with each other.

The 60s! If you look closely there's actually some people that aren't white in the group of little kids at the church. That's hardly "diversity," but the op said "everyone's white." of course I'm sure the main characters is what was meant. While I watched the movie I was thinking about how a lot of people would probably have a problem with the lack of non white people in the film, and while I wouldn't be opposed to diversity at all, I don't think it's a problem to have a mainly white cast. at least given the setting. takes place in the 60s, film made in the 80s.

To me, hating films that are all white means hating on a lot of great films from the past. I am for diversity in movies today but that doesn't keep me from enjoying movies from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s when people of other races weren't in movies as often.

Ralph Macchio ain't white.

He voted for Biden?

reply

You're thinking of Scott Baio, also NOT white.

reply

For the time period and setting of the book, it DID reflect America. 2022 America isn't 1965 America no matter how much people want to deny it.

reply

That doesn't matter anymore. Audiences want to see nowadays a racial diversity cast regardless of when the movie took place

reply

Great put white people in colored movies.
