I love this movie. But in the current environment, it just could never happen.

I regret you're probably wrong. I really wouldn't be surprised if it was remade in the next couple of years by someone like the guy doing the Ghostbusters remake - probably go the same route of having two funny women in the roles and either Murphy or Ackroyd being a Duke brother.

I think it would be more along the lines of there would be zero references to race made at all.

The movie could be remade (sadly as explained above), but there would clearly need to be changes made in the script.

Stupid if they try. Just one of those films where the entire cast just clicked perfectly.

Is very bad to steal Jobu's rum. Is very bad.

What would a Trading Places be like if done today, probably would focus on Lewis and Billy Ray's children and them being the leads. Last we saw our heroes they were rich and happy, well if they didn't lose their money, their kids grew up very spoiled.

The one character I really don't want to know what became of them, but also do at the same time is Clearance Beeks. Assuming he is still alive, how did he drink and eat, realistically if not rescued, he would die of starvation.

It was suggested by the scene on the deck of the freighter that the real gorilla in the cage had shown the costumed Beeks sweet hot monkey love, but by the time they would arrive in Africa, I'm sure the duct tape would no longer hold and Beeks could make his humanity known.
