Would Theo Die?

Since Theo was based on Bill Cosby's real life son Ennis who was murdered do you think that Theo would suffer the same fate?

reply

The better way to word the question is did Theo die, and the answer is no, he survived throughout the series and into adulthood.

Hubcap18 - I think what OP is asking is - if the Cosby Show had continued into the late '90s or beyond, would Bill Cosby have had Theo killed off to continue the thread of similarities between Theo and Ennis? Remember - the Cosby Show ended about 5 years before Ennis was murdered - and we really don't know the fate of the Theo character after he graduated from NYU in the very last episode.

I am going to speculate on this question by saying that it just would have been too painful and morbid for Bill Cosby to consider having Theo suffer the same fate as Ennis. I think it would have been carrying the similarities too far. I think Bill Cosby would have more likely wanted Ennis to live through Theo, so to speak.

reply

No way. Ennis Cosby lives on through Theo. Still, it could be a valid reason why there was never a reunion movie. Speculating what Theo would be like as a fellow in his mid-40's would likely be too painful for Bill Cosby to plan out.

no, theo would dodge the bullet. and him and cockroach would go after the dude throughout brooklyn 'streets of rage' style with both of them in wet jherri curl, chains, and steel knuckles, sportin' some hot ICHI YAMARADA

This is an 8PM family sitcom, not a Boyz n the Hood-style urban drama.

ok, they'll take along rudy and the family station wagon, and instead of listening to rap they'll play the new track from The Walking Lemons.

In the 2002 sort-of reunion special, Phylicia Rashad herself explained where everyone would be today. She said that Theo would be a chancellor. She also said that Denise would be living in a trailer park somewhere which could've been a diss to Lisa Bonet.

reply

Ouch! I thought it was just Bonet and Cosby who didn't get along!

reply

Yeah, but in all fairness it wasn't said with much thought and she followed up that statement with a light chuckle saying she wasn't sure where Denise would end up because she could never make up her mind what to do. You probably have to watch the special to get the gist.

If it was really based on Bill Cosby's family, Theo would die and Denise would be on drugs. Cliff would disown Denise and cut Denise off from the Huxtable family. Cliff would also cheat on Claire many times and possibly have another daughter out there.

And to continue that train of thought, Heathcliff Huxtable would be exposed as one of those perverted OB-GYNs who grope, molest, and rape his patients as he is "examining" them. Dozens of his old patients would come forward with claims that they were given a sedative and molested (or worse) in his office. Clair would be that "ride or die" b*tch - defending him 'till the end and claiming that the women "wanted it".

Vanessa would defend her daddy on Facebook with a post so full of basic grammatical and syntax errors that you would wonder how she ever scored 1400 on the SAT.

The patient that is played by Iman would write an article for The New York Times detailing her experience with the perverted Dr. Huxtable that is loads more articulate than Vanessa's Facebook post.

People would wonder if the reason why Denise dropped out of Hillman and was so flakey as a young adult is because she was raped/molested by her own daddy. Oh, and Heathcliff had sex with a couple of Denise's friends - giving one of them (the one played by Stacey Dash) an STD.

Martin (Denise's husband) would eventually retire from the military - become a well-known conservative pundit (a real Herman Cain type) - and tell the world, "You know, I always knew that there was something creepy about my father-in-law."
