Denise's departure

Basically Denise had to go to college because the actress Lisa Bonet starred in Angel Heart. I always thought that she was a loss for the show. I know Cosby got her another sitcom but I thought the show lacked her.
Too bad. I just watched the episode when she goes off to college.

Cosby did get her another show, as you said...A Different World, where she lasted all of one or two seasons before she decided to go be herself and shun responsibility. She wasnt going to be typecast as Denise Huxtable and, instead of taking on various roles to explore her talents, she married a musician, grew out those disgusting dreadlocks, and completely abandoned all the work that she had put in to becoming a likable, girl-next-door kind of actress. It's pretty telling that A Different World did better after she was written out of it, and the entire show was supposed to revolve around her.

reply

Likable? Girl next store? Meh... she was totally bland and utterly generic.

In other words, she moved on. Good for her. At least Lisa doesn't have to worry about people calling her Denise Huxtable 20+ years later as she walks down the streets with her fine husband and children. Can't say the same thing for Theo and Rudy.

Ouch, mama that was my ear!

Yeah, she moved on and stayed Lisa Bonet...and is still best known for being Denise Huxtable. Malcom Jamal-Warner is a poet and spoken word performer while Keisha Knight-Pulliam was on House of Pain for several seasons.

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

When I see pictures of Lisa Bonet I don't automatically think Denise Huxtable unless it a Cosby Show pic. People still say "Rudy all grown up" when looking at Keisha Knight-Pulliam. I'm like, it's been 22 years why wouldn't she be?

The Cosby Show still did very well without Lisa Bonet in season's 4 & 5, although she did appear in a few episodes. Even when Lisa Bonet came back in the 6th season, Olivia made more of an impact than Lisa Bonet did.

I admire Lisa Bonet for moving on but she was mainly just a "okay" actress nothing really special.

I actually like "A Different World" better after she left the show. I think the main reason the show was number 2 was because it was smack dab with other hit sitcoms on Thursday night. The first season wasn't that spectacular, but once she left the show after the 1987-88 season, the show was good. Lisa Bonet to be honest was just eye candy because she's a okay actress, but she was sexy back in the 80's.

If she was a male film star and you were a woman, then yes you would be.

Maybe but I think she spiced the show up a bit. It was mainly a family show with too many kids. Denise was the more hot daughter and at least gave me more reason to watch. It's kinda like Penny and the Big Bang Theory.

Indeed, when A Different World premiered in 1987, it was sandwiched in the 8:30 slot between The Cosby Show and Cheers, which had been slowly rising in the ratings previously alongside the previous holder of the 8:30 slot, Family Ties.
