How is Tales From The Darkside: The Movie connected to this series?
Is it just in name only or what?

Here's a cool fact: Tales from the Darkside TV series was supposed to be a TV version of Creepshow (also created by the same people), but Warner Bros. owned the name, so G. Romero changed it to TftDS. Tales from the Darkside: The Movie has been referred to by one of the creators as the real Creepshow 3 (not that awful Creepshow 3 that you can find on YouTube).
Yea, I read that online, a long time ago.
I like the name "Tales from the Darkside" better than "Creepshow."

Mostly name only. The show's intro doesn't establish any sort of narrative. The movie has a boy reading a "Tales from the Darkside" book to a witch. Christian Slater, who appeared on the TV show, does have a lead role in the movie, but it's not like he's playing the same character or anything.
