Word processor of the Gods,,,,

I DO like this episode. It is somewhat unusual--in that it has a VERY happy ending, for the main actor.

(SPOILERS follow...).....

But when i first saw it, and how whatever Davison typed, would happen...I thought"he is going to be stuck in "limbo" typing on the keyboard as the machine self-destructs, trying to get back his original family or his "new" family..SOMEONE....and it would end that way---with him desperately tying fruitlessly away...

But it DID NOT end that way!! As the machine totally destructed...it DID grant his "last request". His loafer son and nagging wife were GONE....replaced by his "dream girl" and the "son he always wanted", who had built the processor for him. He also had gained some money.

SO in effect..the crudely-built, but MAGICAL machine--gave him EVERYTHING he wanted!! there was NO "consequence" as in many episodes....and I LIKE it that way!!

I watched this episode today, and am surprised by how much of a happy ending it was. Wasn't sure what to expect. I admit the wife and kid are nothing to write home about, but he gave them up to easily. Did he really have no regrets? They cease to exist, and get gets a happy ending with a new wife and son, who were his brother's.

It was written by Stephen King.in arguably his best short story collection Skeleton Crew. I highly recommend it.
