In the episode where they find Leela's parents the whole ep pretty much takes place in the sewer with these deformed mutant thingiies was that a spoof of C.H.U.D?

It reminded me more of Gandahar (a.k.a. "Light Years') personally

They do mention them, but they are in the sewer under the sewer.
