Seriously?

Not as ridiculously and purposely looney as Killer Tomatoes", so no props for over-the-top silliness and humor. Some of the worst "acting" and dialogue I've ever seen, but not quite bad enough to be funny...just bad.
This piece of crap doesn't deserve "cult film" status. It doesn't capture an 80's feel...it doesn't achieve a "B" movie ambiance...it's just bad with a side of stupid.

I fully disagree. To each their own, but for a movie made in 1984, I found some of the acting and roles to be much better than I had expected. I remember growing up and seeing posters for this movie that scared me, and having just watched it last night, I was delighted.

John Heard and Daniel Stearns, especially, made this quite enjoyable. Based on what they were working with (mutated humans under the streets of Manhattan?), they made their characters believable and normal.

Especially Stearns - his character has an aloof awareness of what's happening and who he is, especially in the "I used to be a nuclear physicist... okay, I saw it on TV" bit.

The creature effects are silly, of course, but the sets were great for 1984! There was actually pacing and tension in the film, despite the content...

I think what's important to realize is this movie is 28 years old. And in 1984, I dare say this was probably a rad horror/ monster flick.
