My thoughts on CHUD...

It's a shame; CHUD is an extremely well acted, directed, and photographed horror movie. The major problem is the "monsters" - they look awful, and as a result the film isn't scary - the kiss of death for a horror film.

From the moment you see the first mutant, with it's huge plastic "eyes" and the obvious yellow light bulbs behind them, the tension just dies. But apart from that the film is, as I said earlier, extremely well made, especially compared to other obscure horror flicks.

For it's time, the CHUD were really cool looking. As this was an 80's picture, I think the audience "bought" the creature. Obviously their not on par with the Xenomorphs from Alien or Aliens but more like the creatures of Humanoids of the Deep. Anyway, it'd be interesting to see what they'd be able to do with the film now with a "proper" remake or sequel (CHUD II:BUD...SUCKED), but descent sequel (CHUD III:Rise of the Dwellers...or something like that,...and bring back John Herd,Daniel Stern and Christopher Curry. If you have a chance to get the anchorbay Dvd, listen to the commentary between Stern,Herd,Curry and Sheppard Abbot, it's HILARIOUS!!!!

I just watched this film for the first time in 25+ years and was thinking the same things. For a B movie almost 30 yrs old this film holds up tremendously. The acting, the cinematography, the writing. It's a shame this movie was lumped in with all the other 80's B movie rip-offs (CHUD can be described as Alien Meets Any Living Dead movie In The Sewers). It's miles above 99% of them.

True there was a lot of other horror movies released at the same time and the more mainstream movies got most of the attention. Makes CHUD a cult classic!
