shower scene
What was up with the clogged drain in the shower scene? They didn't really explain where all that blood came from.

sharethere needed to be some way to get kim griest naked :)
shareI have to say that after taking an online course in plumbing, this scene makes even less sense. Drains do not spout blood. Drains are designed to take nasty bodily fluids down them and not to let them come back up again. If it came out of the shower head, then maybe there would be some explanation, but it still doesn't really fit. Like what did the CHUD do, shove a freshly killed dog in the pipes? o.0
shareAfter watching C.H.U.D. several times I am kind of thinking the scene might have been a metaphor for abortion. No, seriously. Think about it. It's a touchy subject and one that a B-movie from the 80s might not know how to bring up too well and with the character being pregnant and not sure if she wants to have the baby it might've been a subtle hint that she ended up getting an abortion. Especially since she never brings it up after that.
share It is up there with the coin eating scene...in that it makes you think HUH?!
The coin scene made me laugh AND go huh? This scene jus made me go HUH?!
She doesn't even look/act freaked out when we see her gettin dressed jus after the scene!
"Oh! Tssk! These New York drains! Hurrumph, splattered in blood AGAIN! Guess I'll jus shower again...tum tee tum...rum tum teeeee tummmmmm"
Abortion ?! Hmmmm, if so that was frakkin subtle beyond belief!
What's up w/movies and secret messages?
shareShe does stick a coat hanger in the drain and suddenly it spouts blood. Seems like an abortion metaphor. Not sure what it had to do with the C.H.U.D. though.
It's just the director's way of saying that the CHUD are everywhere. People use coat hangers for clogged drains.
"We have guided missiles and misguided men."
I actually don't think this movie was THAT smart. LOL!
I think it was just a surreal moment for the sake of making it surreal. It was just a one-shot WTF moment just to make the audience scratch their heads.
Lol. If its an abortion metaphor, what exactly is it saying about abortions?
i listened to the dvd commentary (worth a look, its pretty entertaining) and daniel stern and the other guy complained about that scene too. they said it contributed nothing to the plot and made no ene, but if i am not msitaken, the producers wanted a shower scene with kin greist. there is even a deleted scene where they show her breasts, but its obviously body double (and not a good one, the tan lines dont match)
still, this is one of my favorite movies of all time.
It was only the sweetest abortion-metaphor-tangent ever!
shareMy first thought was "yeah, any excuse for an `80s shower scene" and secondly, "wow, that was a very thinly-veiled abortion metaphor that went NOWHERE."
Didn't do anything for the movie, but was still pretty entertaining... and if you're as sick as me... it was funny. :)
That was a hot scene, in a toned down version of Dressed To Kill (80). Even though the movie was so bad, to this day it has one of the funniest commentary tracks I have ever listened to.
shareAgreed. I only watcch the DVD with the commentary on, it's very funny and informative. Plus the actors know it's a crap movie that they had a great time making.
If they wanted a leading lady nude scene, maybe they should've hired a hot leading lady. Never thought Greist was appealing IMO.
I assumed a very small CHUD somehow got stuck in her drain pipe and got on with my life.
