Wonderfully gritty atmosphere

C.H.U.D. has a sweaty, ultra grimey feel to it, every frame exudes the ambience of a long gone New York teeming with hordes of derelicts, the perfect double bill with C.H.U.D. would be the William Friedkin flick "Cruising."-his S&M slasher documentary on New York's homo leather subculture.

Triple feature that with Abel Ferrara's Driller Killer then. For many of the same reasons you described, which I agree with.
There are a lot of other good ones too.
