i remember seeing this as a kid, and i just watched it right now, and i cant help but shake the feeling that I REMEMBER A DIFFERENT ENDING!
its in another diner, people sitting down minding their own, when the CHUDs show up and eat everyone, and i DISTINCTLY remember hearing knawing and chewing sounds as the credits rolled.

the tv/vhs version has the diner ending with john goodman cop. in the dvd, it's switched to right before they pump gas into the sewers! i think that scene fits much better in the dvd version.
sharestrange- thats what i thought, however what about the scene in front of the diner? thats supposed to follow the john goodman scene, isnt it? how did the tv/vhs version explain that?
sharein the DVD, the scene in front of the diner follows the john goodman scene making it possible that the chud are exterminated in the end. in the vhs, that scene just pops in there, with the john goodman scene as the ending leaving it as the chuds are very alive...strange that the director would allow for this mix up. i prefer the flow of the DVD for it's continuity.
shareThat may be true, but it seems entirely probably the CHUD aren't all dead, despite the sealed off manhole covers. One of them got out through the basement in the photographer guy's apartment, so it's reasonable to assume the CHUD could have used other exits around the city. There's no guarentee of any kind they were isolated to that area. The TV ending may be dodge from a continuity point, but the DVD ending seemed a bit anticlimactic, and it was odd that nobody addressed the fact that CHUD remain abroad.
