Some interesting choices and great actors there. I might swap a few around.

Mortensen sounds like a good choice for the Duke but after tremendously enjoying Children of Dune, I kept wondering if McAvoy would be great in that role now that he's older.

McLachlan was a great choice for the original and I find that Gyllenhaal, while I really enjoy his movies, shows some lack of discipline in facial features that Paul is attributed with in the books. Who would I choose instead, I don't know. A young Keanu Reeves, maybe.

Fassbender would be great as Feyd but he'd have to match age-wise to Paul. Bit old for that maybe?

Adam Driver as a leader of Fremen? Why do you think he'd pass? Stilgar is a lot older and stately, grounded than Driver looks. How about Fassbender or Vince Cassel?

I chuckled at Cumberbatch. Bit of typecasting but it might work!

Ewan McGregor as Duncan? Just no! Sorry. He's not the hearththrob I'm looking for!

Blanchett is a bit too blond for the warm Jessica. I might go with Jessica Chastain.

Pearce could work as Piter, and so would Tom Hiddleston. What do you think?

I'd love to find roles for Ed Skrein and Franco Nero too in these.

Armie Hammer is an imposing 6'5" tall and is significantly taller than both Kinnear (6'0") and Eisenberg (5'9") whom you want as the Beast Rabban and Feyd Rautha, respectively. The final fight between a 5'9" Rautha and a 6'5" Paul would look ridiculous to say the least considering that Hammer's Paul could simply squash Eisenberg's Rautha like a bug. Love Hammer, but pretty clearly he's the wrong choice here. You need someone who looks vulnerable.

ladaskon, not %100 on board with your choices (but what fun would such threads be if I were, right?), but I'm totally down with Viggo Mortensen as Leto and Hugh Laurie as Doctor Kynes. Totally. The former has shown he has the gravitas for such a role and the latter can pull off the "is he slightly unhinged?" thing particularly well.

LaurenceBranagh, first of all  for such a thorough list! My favotite of your selections would be Tilda Swinton as the Reverend Mother.

not bad, not bad but make sure ALL of them read the book twice at least

Although some of those are great choices, I have to admit that several of them are absolutely terrible. :P

Jake as Paul? Paul is 15 at the start of the film and around 18 at the end. Way too old.

Fassbender also WAY too old for Feyd, who is maybe a few years older than Paul but in the same general range.

Adam Driver (decent actor but his looks/voice are REALLY goofy as hell and distracting from his work) as a guy of mostly Middle Eastern genes? How about we pick somebody would could at least pass as such vs a pasty looking white dude with a giant schnoz?

Daisy Ridley is really cute but once again, pasty white chick playing the role of somebody with up to 75% Middle Eastern genetic stock (her mother was Fremen and her father was 1/2 Fremen)? No thanks. How about one of the many talented actresses out there that actually looks the part.

Cate Blanchett, although otherwise a great choice, is simply showing her age too much. She's a Bene Gesserit trained concubine at least a decade younger than Leto - she simply looks way too old to play the part if Viggo is going to play Leto I.

Jean Reno is an interesting pick - not really somebody I would think of for Shaddam, but if he could pull off the regal/arrogant bearing without being fake about it then he could work. I really think it will be hard to top Jose Ferrer in any remake - he left an impression that Giancarlo Giannini who played Shaddam in the miniseries simply didn't (and he's a really good actor).
