Was there another shorter cut of this movie? (Spoiler)

Honestly I've never read the book, but I believe I can remember another cut where the story cuts in the court room with Adela having a cave echo moment, cutting then to Fielding arriving at Dr. Aziz's home where he, Dr. Aziz, resentful, says he is now an Indian leaving Fielding under the monsoon rain and Adela alone at home in the UK; but just last night I saw a longer different version where the story gives closure to the plot with Dr. Aziz writing to Adele and reconnecting with Fielding and meeting his wife, daughter of Mrs. Moore.

Am I correct in this or is it just my imagination?... Few people today have seen this movie so I'm sort of lost when I ask about it.

Thank you for any information shared on this

I had exactly the same feeling. I watched the DVD last night and kept seeing things I had not remembered, and I have an excellent memory. In particular, the ending where Dr. Aziz had moved to Srinagar. In my recollection the film ended where Aziz was getting ready for his victory party and told Fielding that from now on he was Indian. There were also several other scenes in the film which I don't recall seeing before. I wondered if it has previously been cut short for TV, or to get in more shows per day in the theater.

Glad to know I wasn't off on this.

The previous version, to me gives way to thought rather than what the newer version offers, which is closure and a happy-go-lucky ending.

When I saw it many many years ago, and still very young, the ending as you explained it, gave me a sense of unresolved issues as so many things happen throughout life and we never get to close the door on them.

The cut of the film has not changed, ever. I saw it in the theater when it was first released and it is exactly the same cut on my blu ray. It does, indeed, wrap up with Aziz's letter.

End of the world? So what.
