Merchant/Ivory

I'm thinking that this would have been a better-handled film had it been tackled by the Merchant/Ivory team. They easily had Forster's sentiments down and while many love the Jarre score, I think it was too fluffy for the exotic Indian landscape.

It is kind of funny that M-I never picked this one to do, especially with all of their previous work in India and connections there. Maybe they had problems securing the rights.

Why doesn't IMDB display a film's studio more prominently?

Maybe the fluffiness you are talking about is to reinforce the the cloistered life that Ms. Quested has lived in England. She is the neophyte we are introduced to India through so it is important that we related to her and not to India or the Indians as such, at least until we get to know Dr. Aziz better.
