Were both James and Edward Fox in this?
It seems as if they are both on the cast list. But where was Edward Fox? A stunt double for his brother, perhaps? lol.

shareWhich cast list are you referring to ? Only James Fox appears on my cast list http://www.mapability.com/travel/p2i/cast.html and others I have seen.

Tim - I was referring to the main cast list here at imdb. Probably a typo?
sharehttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087892/fullcredits
...<snip>...
rest of cast listed alphabetically:
Edward Fox .... Richard Fielding (uncredited)
John Michie .... Bit Part (uncredited)
Hmmm yes, I see what you mean. That turns up on other sites as well, though most of this stuff just gets copied on - hard to spot who wrote it first !!
A search without James Fox:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=edward-fox&num=100&hl=en&rls=GGLD%2CGGLD%3A2004-03%2CGGLD%3Aen&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=a+passage+to+india+&as_oq=&as_eq=James-fox&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&as_rights=&safe=off
even has Edward appearing in the main role on some sites !!
Well, I'm afraid I can't show any light on this - have never heard of it before. Perhaps someone 'in the know' will add to this thread eventually.

PS - I've located the also-mentioned 'John Michie', and a photo of him in 'A Passage To India' here:
http://www.john-michie.co.uk/films.htm
I only remember seeing James Fox in the film and in the credits.
shareIf Edward Fox is in the film, a) where the hell is he? and b) why the hell is he? He definitely looks distinct from his brother, and what the point of having him play the same character be, exactly?
In Kevin Brownlow's bio of Lean, for what it's worth, Edward Fox is not mentioned once. So it's probably just somebody being an idiot. God knows there are lots of them on this site.
"My dear Norfolk, this isn't Spain - this is England!"
Look closely at the Viceroy in the film. Looks a lot like Edward Fox. Edward Fox used to be credited on the Imdb as playing the Viceroy (uncredited).
shareI don't see the resemblance, sorry. I think we would know for sure if it was him, at any rate - he's not exactly an unknown actor.
Let us drink, gentlemen, till we roll under the table in vomit and oblivion!
I think we can conclude this was just an error. James Fox was definitely Fielding. I don't even think the Viceroy looks over much like him.
