Scenes cut from the original print

I first saw this film at the time of its release in England. I seem to recall a scene in which the Alec Guinness character refused to sing a song for the guests at a garden party, then changed his mind and announced that he would sing. The incident is in the book, but I saw the film long before I read the book, and remembered it. I have never seen the scene again in subsequent VHS or DVD versions. Google searches only produced an obscure mention of an Indian complaining of Guinness' foolish singing in his silly, offensive portrayal of a Hindu. I have found no official indication of any cuts in the film. Is there any hope that scenes will be restored? (The trial seemed to go on longer originally, as well.)

There were indeed cuts made to the film before its release. Lean was dissatisfied with Guinness´s performance and cut some of his scenes, including the original ending, with Guinness performing an ancient Hindu or Brahmin dance, on a floor decorated with the Wheel of Life or something similar.

I saw the film on first Swedish release. Can´t remember Guinness singing or talking about singing.
