Where are the Marabar caves?

Anybody have any idea where the Marabar Cave sequences were filmed? The Filming Locations on imdb are not very helpful. Thanks.

reply

Not sure, but I believe it was a granite cave outside Bombay. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. The interiors will filmed in a studio.

The caves in the book? They are near Gaya, in Bihar. The caves in the film? They are in 2 places (!!), near Bangalore. For full details see my website - its all about the locations used in this film:

Bangalore, thank you! I don't know how I got it confused with Bombay.

Your website is awesome, BTW, I visit it quite frequently.

Thanks. I was in Gaya last July. If I had known, I could have chequed it out. I also spent a week in Bangalore 12 years ago. By necessity, because of a hartal. It would have been nice to go and see the shooting location, I think.
