Relationship between Aziz and Fielding

Greetings, my children. I've only read the novel, and I was wondering if the film left in the relationship between Aziz and Fielding. And by relationship, I mean the proper, E.M. Forster-ish relationship (see the back of the book is I'm still being too obscure) rather than the friendship. It's just, Forster's lover was Indian, and I think the relationship between the two characters was there for very intimate reasons, and it would spoil the film for me if it wasn't there. Just a thought.

I got the impression of an attraction on Aziz's part towards Fielding. The first scene they meet is Aziz watching him shower and then get dressed. In a later conversation, Aziz gets so intimate(emotionally) that Fielding seemed uncomfortable. Then Aziz seemed to play it off by talking about finding him a wife and about women's breasts in general and implying they should visit a brothel sometime.

Honestly, the script seems to wander so much that I'm not sure I was supposed to pick up on any "vibe" or not. Maybe I was supposed to notice how much more intimate and uninhibited Indian(and Muslim) men are with their friends than the very reserved British.
