Where was the ice skating rink?

It can't be the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center, as that ice skating rink is much larger. The one used in the movie was pretty small. Does anyone know where this smaller rink was?

The skating rink was especially built for the movie. It was constructed in central park, directly across from FAQ schwartz near the plaza hotel. I visited the area 8 years ago and my tour guide told me that he saw the filming

thanks Hiqmat. I have the presskit for the movie and it mentioned how the skating rink was specifically built for the film as the one at rockefeller centre was being renovated or something.
When i was on new york and on the contiki tour i had mentioned how i had always dreamed of visiting the place cause of "Splash".My tour guide said we were going to the section of the park where the rink was filmed. I couldn;t get over that coincidence! I took several photos from different angles lol
I'm good thanks. Been feeling rather down lately but i'm a lot better tonight

About that ice skating rink...

What time of year is it supposed to be during the movie? I'm not a New Yorker but I'd imagine that ice rinks pop up just during the holiday season? If that's the case, I can't see the characters walking around (Madison especially) clothed the way they were if it was supposed to be winter in New York.

Thanks!

It was filmed during the spring of 1983 and I think the ice skating rinks are still opened during that time. It's still pretty cold in late spring.

Rock Center ice rink closes in April. And its not very big at all in person. looks much bigger on television.

I just watched this a few minutes ago. I think this is supposed to imply to the viewers that this is Rockefeller Center.

It's not real ice, it is plastic ice. Just google (go to images) "plastic ice rink" to see what I mean.

Anyway, the skating scene is terrible, you can see the little plastic tile squares, no one actually glides across the ice, they just sort of bump over the plastic, and it is obviously not cold.

In all actuality, Rockefeller was no longer available due to the season. The rink was located in front of the statue of Sherman between 59th and 60th street and between the hedges. Which explains the size. The Wollman Rink was still in disrepair at the time, as well. The city would go on to spend 13 million over 6 years, '80-'86 and accomplish nothing. Donald Trump would eventually complete the project for 2.25 million over the course of 3.5 months. $750,000 under budget and 3 months ahead of schedule, which was quite an achievement at the time. He would be awarded a concession contract in exchange which expired in 2020.
