Just saw the 2nd one (I like Terminator 1 better)

Judgment Day was pretty good, but I enjoy the first one much more.

The 2nd one did expand the action, stunts, CGI and such. It turned everything up to 11, but it was less original. It's plot followed the same formula as the first one, except that Arnold was a good guy. It was missing much of the tension and horror elements. Terminator 1 wasn't just about explosions and gunfire. It was about raw survival and adapting to change.

T2 showed promise of being a better movie in the first half, but the third act just felt like a safe rehash of Terminator 1 except with less story and plot.

You can't go wrong with either one of them, but I much prefer the first one.

Look up the meaning of the word "sequel".

Watch the news for 15 minutes. Where are the Anunnaki when we need them?

Seriously? Were you just bored and wanted to show the world you're a tedious jerk with that reply?

No more than you wanted to with your reply. Were you so bored that you had to show the world how cool you are by flaming me? At least I didn't call him an insulting name.

I think T2 does do a lot of interesting new things, like the relationship developement between John and Sarah Connor. Also between John and the T1000. But yes, it also follows the plot beats of the first film a little too closely to be considered better than the original. It also feels like it was made with a merhandising angle in mind. Everything from the cutesy catchphrases, Arnie on his Harley with a shotgun and sunglasses, the Bad to the Bone part... It all feels more geared to the summer blockbuster crowd. Whereas the original felt a little more like a Noir/thriller, and Roger Corman/Rod Serling-esque. It just felt grittier.

"I think T2 does do a lot of interesting new things, like the relationship developement between John and Sarah Connor. "

Haha! You think relationship 'developement' [sic] is an INTERESTING thing to do in a TERMINATOR movie?

How about Kyle Reese's relationship with Sarah Connor?

"Relationship developement [sic]" is not a NEW thing, as you can (or cannot) see.

The movie you gush over doesn't bring ANYTHING new, except visual gimmicks - it just exploits the old a lot.

The Terminator is a vision-originated, innovative movie involving genius, originality and inspiration. It is an artwork by dedicated, professional and extremely talented people.

The other movie you refer to, is a 'hollywood blockbuster' that destroys everything that's brilliant about The Terminator and its (already closed-loop) story, and what it doesn't destroy, it blatantly copies.

Then it adds 'family-friendliness', stupid humor, bad child actors and preaching, plus of course lots of 'visual gimmicks' (that make no sense) and explosions - you gotta have EXPLOSIONS, when you want to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

The masses ate it hook, line and sinker. It's the PERFECT example of the naked emperor - there's absolutely no substance, but masses praise it over the gritty brilliance of The Terminator, because they have been calculatedly appealed to.

(I know it's bad english to say it like that, but it expresses the meaning).

Every single button that masses care about are pressed by that movie, blinding them to the things they don't care about (mainly, good story, things making sense, good acting performances, and of course that unnamed 'something' that The Terminator radiates that can't be bought with money - the sincerity of creation within uncertainty simply didn't exist after The Terminator).

Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a cash-cow, that adds nothing meaningful to the original story, and robs it of its BEAUTIFUL causal loop that enclosed the story so perfectly.

T2:JD is like a perfectly healthy android being butchered just to make it more 'appealing', while destroying its main functions and original vitality, creating a half dead, soulless, grotesque replica. Unnecessary surgery making it malfunction grossly, but masses don't care, because EXPLOSIONS, ONE-LINERS, FEMA-FASCIST MISANDRISTIC AGENDA, ARNOLD IN A GOOD GUY-ROLE, HURRAH!

"The Terminator (1984)" also has that brilliant Kyle Reese interrogation scene.

No movie since (or before) has ever done anything as interesting.

The best one is Terminator 1 is the best film in the series.

The first film is a masterpiece of horror, thriller and sci fi mixed into a brilliantly paced adrenaline. It sure amazes me majority tend to regard T2 as like the greatest action film ever which yes it has some great action yet is more of a popcorn flick.
