Just saw an episode where Ben said something to Mike and Mike replies, "Who cares, you're 9 years old?" Later on in the episode Mr. Seaver makes it a point that Ben is in the 6th grade.
Who on earth is NINE in SIXTH grade? Isn't 6th grade 11, 12, or even 13 if the kid stayed back (I had four 13 year olds in my 6th grade class. Everyone else was 12 or 11 just about to turn 12)
But NINE? Nine is 4th grade!
he could have been an old 9 years old. and it is possible to skip a grade, especially back then when many parents and educators didn't understand the consequences of being book smart and skipping a grade.
and when I taught fifth grade, I had a couple of 13 year olds.
this year we had a 16 year old.
and it wasn't the case for this show but last year I had a 9 year old second grader [who was really in first grade but they gave him to me due to his age] because his dick parents kept on moving him from florida to nyc, back to florida, back to nyc...
but in any event, continuity was always a problem with television.
Reading the paper can really be depressing. Mr. Dithers fired Dagwood again.
