The "subtle racism" episode

I vaguely remember an episode where Mike gets hired working at a convenience store, but notices a black co-worker getting unfair treatment and side-remarks by customers. I think Dick Van Patten ("eight is enough") guest starred as the owner/manager. Anyone else remember this?

Yes I remember that...Just showed the cruel realities of things unfortunately...

I remember that, too. As I remember, and this could be faulty since it's been so long since it aired: Mike was getting preferential treatment (such as getting out of the graveyard shift) and couldn't figure out why and didn't want to believe what he was told by the other employees.

So then to prove the owner was prejudiced, Mike deliberately poured some Coke on the floor and put the bottle back in the cooler. The owner went off on the other employee, maybe even fired him, then Mike stepped up and confessed to making the mess. The owner then said something about it being okay, and just clean it up.

Then he found the opened bottle, figured out that Mike did it on purpose. He was one of those guys who always claimed he couldn't be accused of bigotry, because he hired minorities. Apparently he didn't think that meant he had to treat them fairly, too.

I don't remember that episode. I remember an earlier one where Mike adopts a mock Indian accent not unlike Apu from "The Simpsons". That probably wouldn't fly so much these days.
