I love how MacGyver NEVER uses a gun!

Macgyver always solves problems without using a gun! That is the best way! Use your brains instead of violence!

Jesus NEVER existed! He is Judeo Christian MYTH!

It makes the character more interesting when not using guns, but saying that MacGyver uses brains instead of violence is not what I have in mind..
Some of his traps are actually very violent (deadly even).

The truth hurts doesn't it moron?

RDA actually said when he was young he had a bad experience with guns therefore never uses them and he incorporated that into his MacGyver character!

He used a gun in the pilot

I remember in one episode involving a nuclear plant, he was on top of it using a revolver minus the cylinder as a makeshift wrench, and the voiceover went something like....

"I hate heights, and despise guns, so what the hell am I doing up here?"

reply

MacGyver realized the world would be much better off without guns!

87 people killed EVERY DAY and 609 people killed every WEEK by guns! That's another 9/11 about every 4 weeks!

Jesus NEVER existed! He is Judeo Christian MYTH!

... then 10 years later on Stargate he wouldn't sleep without his hands wrapped around a P90 sub machine gun.

reply

At least on MacGyver he always solved problems without firing a shot!

Even though I strongly disagree with Mr. Anderson's view on firearms, I greatly respect him for the fact that on-screen, he generally practices what he preaches off-screen. Actors and other celebrities who call for strict gun laws and then go on-screen glamorizing the very latest Master-Blaster, strike me as hypocrites

Didn't Richard Dean Anderson frequently use a gun in the "Stargate" series? (I don't know. I never really watched the show.)

Originality needs a reboot.

My impression of Mr. Anderson was that he rarely used or handled firearms on screen. This is due to some incident involving guns that he had when he was younger. Like I said earlier, I don't agree with his position on firearms, but at least he is being true to his principles, and for that, he has my deepest respect.

Liam Neeson agreed with Britain's handgun ban. He uses guns in movies but is usually law enforcement in those movies.

I think my point is still valid concerning Mr. Anderson. He is being true to his beliefs by not glorifying on-screen that which he abhors off-screen. That is admirable.

I disagree with him, but that is besides the point; he is being true to himself.

His character used a gun (he was Air Force special ops, had to) but also had a kid who'd shot himself with his service revolver, something the character never forgave himself for.

The view that some jobs require guns but they shouldn't be as easily available as they are is pretty common among gun control advocates. I don't think even the most zealous of them would call for disarming the military.

Imagine how much safer we'd be if ONLY trained, qualified law enforcement were allowed to have guns!

The thread is drifting in the direction of a gun-control debate, and I won't be drawn into that. I was simply expressing my admiration of an actor for staying as true to his beliefs as he can.

Even though I disagree with Mr. Anderson (and by logical extension, you) on this topic, by not glorifying on-screen that which he detests off-screen he has ny greatest respect.

Now, if you gentle people will excuse me, I will gather together a couple of my firearms and indulge in my favorite pastime of shooting.

Overlooking for a second the politics of this sort of mind-set, I wonder about the logic of this statement. Heck, I wonder if we could even agree on what makes for qualified law enforcement.

Unless we can remove all guns from the world, plus the ability to make them, people who want them can get them. Realistically, making them illegal would create an entirely new criminal class and, paradoxically, make us less safe.

Law enforcement would:
-become a target for criminals as a means to get a gun
-become a job that people who would otherwise be criminals would seek out
-become a source of unease among the populace since they have guns.

It seems like begging the question. Would removing one harmful thing preclude people from coming up with another?

anyway, MacGyver's ability to overcome obstacles without things like guns is one of the reasons it was a favorite show. I liked the resourcefulness and improvisation.

sounds like you would enjoy prison..

A lot of celebrities who want strict gun laws employ bodyguards who carry guns.

Or they have concealed-carry licenses. Good point.

MacGyver don't use that Bang-bang stuff. His mind and body became his weapon thought the show. he used things as weapons against the bad guys.

I remember the episode when he was a kid, him and friends went out in the woods and they were target shooting.. his one friend tried to shoot a bald eagles but shot another friend instead.. mickey then built a trailer out of a bike and carried his injured friend in the carriage to hospital.. thus why Mc didn't like guns..
