MacGyver will return in a new series by CBS

According to THR, the new take is described as “a reimagining of the television series of the same name, following a 20-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.”

“NCIS: Los Angeles'” R. Scott Gemmill will write the script and executive produce the CBS Television Studios drama. Henry Winkler will again executive produce alongside Michael Clear. James Wan (Furious 7, upcoming Aquaman) is also attached to executive produce and direct the potential pilot. Wan was attached in 2012 to direct New Line’s big screen take on the series, though that project did not move forward.

well let's see what comes up from this.

If Richard Dean Anderson is not in it, I am not going to watch. Richard Dean Anderson is MacGyver.

I wonder if Anderson will at least be featured in a cameo.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

I agree. Think up a different show. Don't try to remake an old one with am actor that can never be replaced.

If they do the casting and writing properly, then it will work out well. I would hate to see it written like Scorpion. I watched the pilot and a few of the other episodes over then years, and that series is just mind-numbingly pathetic.

I think if they cast someone like Mark L. Young as MacGyver and Adam Baldwin as a Pete type of character, if not Pete, then it would be heading into the proper direction. Murdoc would be quite a challenge to cast in the series this early, and I do not believe he entered until the second or third season of the original series. He was not in a whole lot of episodes anyway. Tom Felton would make an excellent Jack Dalton. Nikki would actually be one of the easiest characters to cast assuming they are going to use the classic characters. It might be easier to start over by just doing new characters altogether.

The competing film from Lionsgate will be the issue. This needs to be worked out before the pilot films, or it will destroy both. I do not mind seeing a movie version, but MacGyver character is pretty much too complicated to translate extremely well for a movie. It could work with the right script and director, but I think that I prefer a television run. It would make for an excellent short order summer series.

I will see both, and it appears that something will happen either way this time.

I am interested in to how this show will turn out my personal preffence for the remake is Phillip Winchester as MacGyver (I don't care that he is in his 30's he looks a lot like RDA and I think has the chops to pull off MacGyver)

however we will see what happens my guess is we will know who the new MacGyver is by april.
