Why are there 30 year olds in high school?

People repeated grades a lot more back then too. No way that guy in the bottom left corner is under 25.

Have you ever looked at high school yearbooks from the 70s and 80s? Teenagers then matured much more quickly. They didn't stay physically 12 until they turned 30 like they do today.

I found a 1980 year book photo online. Look at these people, especially the guy in the lower left corner. If you judge by today's appearances, you would think these kids were 25-40 years old.

I agree. Estevez definitely didnt look 30. The only one who questionably might not pass for high school age was Judd Nelson but I knew kids in high school who looked 30 so its not that much of a stretch.

I didn't have any problem imagining Judd Nelson as a teen in this role. He played the role immature enough and had the "good hair".

This movie actually does a lot better during this time (and now) age casting wise than other films. Still, yes, two of the actors were too old to be playing the roles, but certainly not that old to the point where they look like parents of teenagers.

At least he actually looked like he could be a teenager. For the most part. I don't usually mind if the actor is older, as long as they actually look like they could be younger. Too often you can tell that the actors are just too old for the parts and don't really pull it off very well.
