80s Classic

This is one of those movies noboby had heard of before it was on cable. If you're like me you probably watched it about ten times. What's with the 5.6 rating. It deserves at least a 7.

Haha, yeah I agree! I just saw it on HBO and it was pretty good!

I saw this movie through the eyes of Jonathan. I became Anthony Edwards. I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. Like Jonathan, I fell in love with Linda Fiorentino (aka Sasha). How could any young (or, perhaps even a little older ^_^) viewer not be taken by her sexy persona. Her sexy voice and that short hairstyle which made her look like a dark haired “Angel.” What a great job she did with that accent. There was a touching scene when she was “teaching him love,” when they were dancing (and bicycling, and tasting wine, etc). The music in the background was “It’s never too Late.” If you have the dvd, please go to that scene, and see if it doesn’t make you feel warm inside. Or, perhaps, I’m just a romantic who saw this film “through rose colored glasses.” Consider that, if you judge this comment.

wow this movie really affected you, huh? and yeah linda fiorentino is hot

What "After Hours" if you like Linda F!

reply

I agree. This is a great little film that no one I know knows of. Imagine if they all had mobile phones. It'd be an entirely different film. Mobile phones have really changed the way suspense and films are made.

That's a really good point; and not for the better IMO. The world used to seem so huge, but technology has shrunk it like a willie in a cold tub of water. It takes the mystery out of things I feel. That's why something like 'Raiders of the lost Ark' is so great. No cell phones, no satellites or GPS'. Just a guy, a whip and a map.

’Cause there’s thunder in your heart... Every move is like lightning!

reply

definitely. it is like a review I read at the time of "the firm," which mocked the fact that the most suspensful scene was Cruise heroically sending a fax.

When I was a kid my family went to see Back to the Future at the drive-in and Gotcha! was the second movie of the double feature. I remember the opening sequence on campus, but we left shortly after that. Having seen it more recently, it's probably a good thing we left considering the content and the fact that I was 7.

"Nobody had heard of"? Hehe...Actually, I remember watching this many times on (gasp!) VHS back in the 80's. (That gives you an idea of how old I may be...yikes!). To see it again occasionally on cable brings back memories. I even have the DVD...

reply

Ya it should have a rating of least 7

Just caught this on Hulu. It never ceases to amaze me just how many eighties movies escaped my attention during that decade. I went to movies twice a week with out fail all during the eighties and saw hundreds of film titles and then I see films like "Gotcha!" and I wonder how I passed them up. Entertaining film!

I actually remember seeing this movie as a kid at the theatre. It is a good movie, moves at a good pace. Some romance, action and comedy.

reply

Very underrated movie. Comedy, action, suspense and sex all rolled into one. Good music too.

All my favourite films come from the 80s. I was in my teens which was a good time to be watching such delights as:
Gotcha!
Ladyhawke
The Sure Thing
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Three Amigos
Stand By Me
Into the Night

Things just ain't the same.

I actually saw it in the theater. Should I be ashamed of my age or taste? Don't care, still quote it. "Avec de l'eau!"

reply

I saw it on its first run in the theaters. I remember it being a little bit silly, but also funny and very entertaining. And Linda F. was definitely hot, especially with that Eastern European accent. Good memories.

I guess I should try to track it down on DVD.
