The scenery/landscapes/purple skies look straight from the cover of a fantasy novel

esp the shot of Broderick approaching the castle, and the scenes with the snowscape lanscapes/mountains (noawadays probably use CGI backdrops in a studio)

anyway never seen the movie until now (on a obscure movie channel) but vaguely knew of its existence as one of Donners lesser known movies and one of the sword&sorcery fantasy of that genre that was trying to break out at that time: Conan, Hawk the Slayer, Beastmaster, Krull, Legend etc before Willow kind of closed that era ..(until LOTR brought it back in a huge way)

I guess Dick Donner just fancied doing a medieval fantasy movie at that time over anything else to create that painted cover of a fantasy novel style on screen. hes one of the few directors to cover most genres

The score tho.. not a traditional Goldsmith/Horner type fantasy score or even atmospheric Vangelis/Tangerine Dream synth style.. But as someone on another thread said like a Saturday morning cartoon. Just so jarring and out of place. Im guessing fans have made utube edits with more appropriate music.
