I remember reading (somewhere) that Christian had a huge crush on Helen during the filming and even hit on her. But, being 8 years his senior, Helen made it known that the feelings weren't mutual.

Eight years isn't that far apart unless he was underage me and my ex were seven years apart when we got together he was eighteen and I was twenty-five

8 years can be far apart depending on the ages of the people involved. If one person is 10 and the other is 18 that's almost twice as old. If one person is 50 and the other is 58 than those 8 years don't seem nearly so far apart.
In Christian & Helen's case he was 15 and she was 23. Not only was he underaged but I don't know many 23 year old women who are sexually attracted to 15 year old boys.
Eight years is a huge difference when he's 15 and she's like 22 or 23. He really was like a kid brother to her. I can understand why he crushed on her though, she was beautiful as Billie Jean!
I'm sure they're both sick of the last name question. It was just a coincidence!

If you read their biographies, you'll find that while Christian was born with the last name "Slater," Helen changed hers from "Schlacter."

I saw Christian on the Actors Studio and he said he thought they would marry as they had the same last name.
