The Washington Post review from 1985 is pretty interesting


They mostly liked the movie as a guilty pleasure. They also said that there was cross-cutting agendas going on with the producers. Supposedly, Rob Cohen really believed in the story, but Guber and Peters were closer to Mr. Pyatt in that they were all about exploitation. And there are stories out there about Jon Peters' sleaziness.
